The concept for this exciting range of aromatic products is the work of Susan George who, together with a highly qualified team of veterinarians, pharmacists and aromatherapists, extensively researched and developed this project. 'Naturally' is the philosophy and the company policy. The finest essential oils, herbs and purest plant extracts are the combination for the products and, in every item, a higher than average percentage. No secrets. No illusions.

Aromatherapy has existed as one of many complementary medicinal arts for thousands of years, dating back to Ancient Egypt. More recently, these arts have been actively developed to enhance healing, but the concept has attracted some scepticism. 'The mind is like a parachute, if it isn't open, it won't work.' Fortunately, as a result of more 'open minds', these complementary medicines have again become readily available and accepted in the human field and are, increasingly, perceived as an answer when more conventional medicinal techniques fail to give the desired results. Something of a renaissance has emerged and this resurgence has been especially obvious in the field of equine therapy. Horses respond well to many alternative therapies, demonstrating their great sensitivity and responsiveness.

Essential oils are concentrated extracts of herbs, gums, fruits, roots and seeds, which possess individual qualities that can heal and restore balance to both mind and body. Detailed studies of their effects enable practitioners to prescribe them for a vast array of illness and disease, often with very quick results. Many oils have properties that can also make them appropriate for general use; as washes, salves, cleansers and revives, rather than being used to treat serious illness. This is the basis for the products launched by Susan George Naturally, a range enabling the horse owner to access and utilise this exciting knowledge in the day to day care of their horse.

 

THE SALVE - (250ml)

The Salve, our leading product. Its powers are multi-faceted, from use on minor cuts and abrasions, to sores, to mud fever - when used often and liberally, it works to great effect. The formula for this gel is Aloe Vera (Aloe barbadensis) which has a dramatic ability and therapeutic reputation for rehabilitating wounds, ulcers and burns; antipyretic Yarrow essential oil (Achillea millefolium); refreshing Lavender (Lavendula angustifolia) and bactericidal Niaouli (Melaleuca viridiflora) all blended with soothing extract of Calendula (Calendula officinalis). The Salve has been designed for topical use for all minor cuts and abrasions.

THE ENERGISING SHAMPOO - (1 litre and 500ml)

This pearlised shampoo contains a high percentage of aromatic invigorating Rosemary essential oil (Rosmarinus officinalis). It includes a lesser amount of Lavender oil to 'fine-tune' and balance the body's natural energies. The product has a strong cleansing action and leaves the 'white of light' and richness of dark coat gleaming.

THE HYDRO SHAMPOO - (1 litre and 500ml)

This skin-care wash is for hydrating 'dry skin', incorporating Cade essential oil (Juniperus oxycedrus), which has analgesic, antimicrobial and antiseptic actions with invigorating Rosemary and moisturising Chinese Cedarwood (Cedrus deodara). The oils in this product have been specially selected to help re-hydrate 'dry skin' as well as enhance your horse's natural coat condition and colour.

Susan George Naturally shampoos are very cost-effective and only need a little to go a long way. They are low in suds because the formulation is not detergent based.

THE RECOVER SPRAY - (1 litre)

This product artfully combines demulcent, anti-inflammatory Comfrey (Symphytum officinale); Aloe Vera, containing aloectin B, an immumo-stimulant, with essential oils of earthy scented, grounding, Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanoides); comforting German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita); balancing Lavender and rubefacient Silver Fir Needle (Abies alba). Also included is extract of Echinacea (Echinacea angustifolia), the renowned immuno-enhancer, and Arnica (Arnica montana). The Recover Spray is an anti-inflammatory relaxant, useful for easing muscles that may have become tight or tense as a result of travel or work.

THE RAPID COOLER - (3kg or 1.5kg)

This may be used for knocks and swellings on legs. Composed of calming, antibacterial Aloe Vera, with anti-inflammatory, refrigerative Peppermint essential oil (Mentha piperita) and Seaweed (Fucus vesiculosis). The Rapid Cooler combines clay and Rue Extract (Ruta graveolens), the anti-toxic 'Herb of grace', which has been known to assist the recovery of splints. It may be used for bony swellings and as an intermediary 'on going' therapy.

THE A & C COMPOUND - (100g)

The leading components in this product are Arnica (Arnica montana), which is proactive against bruising, shock, muscle pain and fever reduction and the regenerating qualities of Comfrey, which contains allantoin - a stimulant of skin cell production, well-known to research. This revitalising ointment has added natural Shea Butter (Butyrospermum parkirii), which helps restore the skin's moisture balance, Bees Wax and Jojoba oil (Simmondsia chinensis) - closest to the skin's own oil, sebum. It can be used in the event of any form of bruising.

THE CALMA-DERM SPRAY - (250ml)

There is a positive allergic reaction to many insect 'bites' that this product is designed to soothe. The Calma-Derme spray has Aloe Vera, containing aloectin B, an anti-inflammatory. It also contains German Chamomile essential oil, which azulene content reinforces the soothing bactericidal effects of Aloe Vera. The blend includes mineral-rich, anti-allergenic Nettle Extract (Urtica dioica), that naturally contains the amine histamine. The spray may be used as often as necessary to calm the skin.

THE HAND WASH - (500ml)

This is a good grooming innovation for 'people' in the workplace. Naturally hydrating, it is designed for all members of the stable-yard for cleansing purposes. In a gentle sudsy base, the formula contains antiviral, antibacterial Aloe Vera; the protective, antioxidant Lavender; circulation stimulant Rosemary; antiseptic Niaouli; soothing Calendula and Melissa (Melissa officianalis) essential oil, the herb which Paracelsus called the 'Elixir of Life'. The Hand Wash incorporates a hydrating conditioning agent to guard against 'drying' of the skin by repetitive washing.

REVIVE - (20ml)

The combined flower essences in this product, ImpatIens (Impatience), Star of Bethlehem (Shock), Cherry Plum (Fear of mind giving way), Rock Rose (Terror) and Clematis (Lack of interest in the present), work on an emotional level as a balancer for shock, fear and anxiety. Revive is effective for animals and humans alike. Never leave the stable-yard without it.
